Find Your Passion

"Do what you love and you will never have to work a day in your life."

We have all heard this saying thousands of times. I found myself constantly looking for my very own passion, not realizing I had been doing it my entire life.

For a long time I told myself I didn't want basketball to define who I was. I wanted people to see me as more than a basketball player, but I am finally realizing being a basketball player is who I am along with many other things. I cannot deny something that I have been doing my entire life. Basketball has been in my life since the beginning and has shaped who I am and who I will be for the rest of my life.

While facetiming my dad the other week, I began talking about basketball: how many lessons the game has taught me, how many doors it has opened for me, and how much joy I get from coaching the children here. I instantly began to cry, filled with gratitude and humility because I finally realized MY passion is basketball and I have never loved anything as much and as hard as I have loved this sport.

I can now truly say I understand the phrase "Do what you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life". Although it may not be as glamorous a career as I had imagined I could care less, because the joy I get from teaching this game is the best feeling in the entire world.
